The Ghost of the Brora Brigade
by D.L. Marshall

The battle of Bannockburn was in 1314.  Robert the Bruce liberated the Scots in 1603 which united the country.  This song is dedicated to Scottish independence.

1.  It was in the town of Brora,
That a lad was sighing love for a lassie,
    When a Piper called him,
To march with the Brora Brigade.

In his shepherd's plaid, with his claymore beside him,
He heighed across the highlands, to finish the Bannockburn fight!
CHORUS
So, it's heather in the gloamin'...
            Jamie Allen is a-roamin'
Or'e the highland moors and glens,
He's the ghost of the Brora Brigade.

2.  Standing next to Bruce to shield him,
Jamie Allen was cut down in the battle,
Just a young but brave lad, who left a lassie to mourn.
Now a bonnie lass is cryin'
For the loss of her lover, poor Jamie Allen
Never more to kiss her, for  Jamie's beneath the hard clay.
Repeat CHORUS

3.  Willie Wallace showed his courage,
When King Edward said, "We'll carve up the traitor"
Then beneath the heather, all the pieces of Willie were lain.
In the heart of every Scotsman,
Independence burns with a fervor forever,
          Remember Bannockburn, boys,
Let the drum sound the call to us all.
Final CHORUS
Now upon the moors at twilight,
Hear the dirge of pipers piping...
For the Ghost of Jamie Allen, will roam till our Scotland is free!
